Schubert's EPIC "Wanderer" Fantasy in C major, Op. 15 - Analysis
Просмотров 5 тыс.Месяц назад
This is a real showstopper of a piano piece, composed by a young and ambitious Schubert in 1822. The seed of much of the work's material comes from the song "The Wanderer" he had written earlier; he used a melody for variations in the slow second movement and kept the same rhythm for the other fast movements too! Maybe there it feels more like running than wandering, but it's really a fantastic...
Liszt's VISIONARY "Vallée d'Oberman" - Guide

This is a valuable major Liszt work from his first book of "Years of Pilgrimage". It's quite thoughtful and introverted music, dealing with psychological matter from pioneer romantic figure Senancour's novel Obermann about a young man who goes out in nature to seek answers to life's hard questions. But over the span of this 14 minutes long musical essay, you also see the amazing view from the m...

Wonderful. Well done. Have you ever played this piece on an ill-tempered piano? What I’ve enjoyed about KJ’s 1975 performance is his relationship with the piano provided to him at the Köln concert. Had its own character. Enjoyable to hear a virtuoso reproduction with today’s recording.

I learned Bach inventions. When I was young. I played them differently from everyone else I've ever heard them play. This was many years ago when in Junior High and the dinosaurs roam the hallways. I always bring forward the melody while keeping the accompaniment section staccato and softer. Interestingly my piano teacher actually thought it sounded well. Forward a couple of decades my Senior year at Belmont University School of Music teaching a student this inversion and my own piano teacher and I get into a debate about interpreting this invention 😅. Dr. Robert Marler staring me down shaking his head. Me bringing my eyebrows together staring back in disagreement. Epic confrontation at the rehearsal hall while others are frozen in place watching concert pianist and under grad student unwilling to back down over a Bach invention. That's my experience with Bach invention no. 8.😅😂 we made peace and I graduated.

Many years ago I attended a lecture of classical music in cartoons at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. After the lecture there was a reception in the lobby. I was amazed to see Richard Sherman there! And later on I ran into Michael Giacchino in the bathroom lol! I wanted to approach him but considering the circumstances I was way too embarrassed! When I saw him again he was chatting it up with Richard Sherman which really overwhelmed me to approach either of them.

If one wouldn't know the corresponding movie scene, there would be NOTHING "tear jerking" in the music. It's just one of these usual "old-timey", "circus/fair"-feeling, schmaltzy pieces. Harmonically and formally, it's even a bit clumsily written.
